Primary Responsibilities – Math Supervisor
The New Haven Counts Math Supervisor plays a key leadership role at their assigned school site, responsible for the smooth execution of the program each day and for ensuring a safe, engaging, and growth-oriented environment for students, tutors, and staff.
1. Site Management & Setup
- Arrive early to prepare the learning environment (e.g., materials, rosters, attendance sheets, seating).
- Greet students, tutors, and staff, and ensure smooth transitions before, during, and after the session.
- Oversee daily sign-in/sign-out procedures and track attendance for both students and tutors.
2. Tutor Support & Oversight
- Assign students to tutors based on schedules and skill level.
- Ensure tutors have all necessary materials (whiteboards, workbooks, Chromebooks, activities).
- Provide in-the-moment coaching, redirection, or encouragement to tutors as needed.
- Communicate with the Program Director or Coaching Lead if a tutor needs additional support or if concerns arise.
3. Student Engagement & Behavior Management
- Create a positive, structured, and safe learning environment.
- Address any behavior issues promptly and respectfully.
- Keep students on task and engaged in math activities when not with a tutor (e.g., math games, review sheets).
4. Communication & Collaboration
- Serve as the liaison between New Haven Counts and school staff during program hours.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the School Liaison and Parent Coordinator.
- Report issues, successes, or urgent updates to the Program Director immediately.
5. Documentation & Accountability
- Submit attendance logs, behavior notes, and tutor feedback at the end of each session.
- Ensure all program materials are collected, organized, and securely stored.
- Track any missing resources or tutor/student absences and communicate them to the main office.
6. Uphold Program Vision
- Model the values of New Haven Counts: excellence, consistency, and care.
- Ensure each student is seen, supported, and challenged to grow in math confidence and skill.
- Reinforce the connection between academic focus and personal potential—on and off the court.
